Prof. Dr. Peter M. Bican (Chair Representative)
Professor Bican studied law at the Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nuremberg. During that time, he co-founded and led an e-commerce start-up until its acquisition.
After the legal preparatory service and an MBA in Business Integration at the Julius-Maximilians University of Würzburg, Germany, and the Boston University, Questrom School of Business, USA, he joined Deloitte in Luxembourg und PwC in Frankfurt, Germany. His work experience spans consulting, audit, financial advisory, and capital market transactions in both SME and large multinational firms.
Thereafter, he worked as a research assistant at the Chair of Technology- and Innovation Management at WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management in Vallendar, Germany. Building on his prior experiences as educated Lawyer, MBA, and Certified Accountant (FCCA), he intensively studied questions on intellectual property and its strategic application at the intersection of law, business, and accounting. In addition, he spent multiple international research visits to the Center for Research in Technology and Innovation at Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Management in Chicago. Before taking over the Chair of Technology Management, Professor Bican was active as Akademischer Rat (Assistant Professor) at the chair.
In addition to entrepreneurship and technology and innovation management, Professor Bican is predominantly concerned with the question of how companies can proactively develop and strategically deploy their intellectual property rights portfolio. He takes an integrative approach that covers the entire spectrum of intellectual property rights, such as patents, trademarks and copyrights, in an interdisciplinary manner. In addition, he examines the effect of other intellectual assets on innovation, start-up and firm factors.
Professor Bican is serving as Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Technology Marketing and Associate Editor of the International Journal of Innovation and Technology Management (IJITM). He is also an Editorial Advisory Board Member of the South Asian Journal of Marketing and the FIIB Business Review.
