The University of Mpumalanga (UMP) is located in the northeast of South Africa, in Mbombela, which belongs to the Mpumalanga region. In addition to its history, the nearby, world-famous Kruger National Park attracts tourists from all over the world. The university was founded in 2014 and is in an extensive growth phase with the construction of a new campus. In teaching and research, the following priorities are set:
Agriculture and Natural Sciences, Commerce and Management, Education, Humanities and Social Sciences.

At the end of October, Alexander Brem paid the UMP an inaugural visit. During his visit, the details of the cooperation, both at teaching and research level, were discussed and an agreement was signed. Thus, starting winter semester 2019/20, a structured exchange of students between the universities will be possible, in each case without tuition fees. If interested, information on exchange opportunities can be obtained from the International Relations Office (Student Exchange) or the Central Office for International Affairs (Researcher Mobility).
In addition, the visit was used to establish and intensify contacts with the contact persons of the various faculties. In addition, Alexander Brem gave a public lecture on Frugal Innovation in Africa to employees of the university and representatives of various regional companies.
